Named for the rich hues of its flowers, the lovely Aster China Matsumoto Blue Flower offers lovely color in a unique bloom. Big feathery blooms add texture to flower arrangements and garden designs.

Aster (Callistephus chinensis) wins more and more supporters every season. This wonderful variety with extremely large, round, double inflorescences dazzles with the abundance and long period of blooming. Its exquisite flower heads, built of densely set, deeply purple, tongue-shaped flowers, appear already in June to adorn the borders and flower beds until the first autumn cold waves. The plant develops a loose, erect, tuft habit, 50 to 80 cm tall.

Sowing Depth + Method: Transplant (recommended) 3mm deep 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Heat and reduced day length initiate flowering. Establish plantings early to avoid short stems. Direct seed - After your last frost date and when soil temperature is 18-21°C. Provide support. Pinching is not required.

Spacing: 15-30cm apart

Position:
Full Sun

Days until Germination: 10 - 14 days @ 21-22°C

Seed to Bloom: 14 weeks

Vase Life:  7-10 days

Fresh: Outside ray florets begin to open. Place immediately in water.

Dried: When blooms are fully open.

Seeds of the sturdy asters can be sown the whole spring long into hotbeds, indoor greenhouses and even simple boxes and pots placed on window sill at home. Nicely developed, strong seedlings are transplanted to sunny borders after thinning.

Although this presented variety presents sufficient ornamental value to make it the main attraction in the flower arrangement, it looks even better accompanied by its relatives with white, pink, yellow and red blooms. You may also consider setting up intriguing compositions of asters with equally decorative zinnias or annual flowers with erect inflorescences, such as snapdragons or hoary stocks.
